Obituary of Martin Knabenes

Martin Knabenes, 75, of Marlboro Township died on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township. He was born in Kvinesdal, Norway and came to the United States on November 27, 1960 entering through the former Idlewild Airport, New York City. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed animals, his dogs, and thoroughbred horseracing. He was a ski jumper, runner, and high jumper in Norway. His wife, Sigrid Margaret Knabenes, died in 1996. He was also predeceased by his parents, Gunnar and Inger Sofia Knabenes, and a brother, Ola Knabenes. Surviving are his children, Lisa Sheppard and her husband Dave; Linda Rodak, and Stanley and John Roddy; his grandchildren, Dylan, Jennifer, Gregory, Joseph, Julie, Lisa and their families; his brothers, Per Knabenes and wife Gunhild, Viggo Knabenes and wife Swanhild, Karstein Knabenes and wife Elisabeth, and Sigurd Knabenes; and sister-in-law, Torhild Knabenes A private memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 12 to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
