Obituary of Seymour Savetsky

Seymour Savetsky, 92 of Colts Neck, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at home. He was born and educated in New York City. In 1947 he received his Bachelor’s degree, Magna Cum Laude, from City College of New York. He was a member of the prestigious honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. At graduation he received the Tremaine Prize for writing the winning essay on the subject, “The Causes of the Civil War”. In 1948 he received a Master’s degree in American History from Columbia University. During the 1950’s, together with his mother and father, Fannie and Max Savetsky, he operated a ten thousand bird chicken farm in Howell Township. He was elected to the boards by fellow egg farmers to several farm cooperatives. He testified in Washington, D.C. before the Senate Agriculture Committee to provide assistance for the depressed egg farmers. In 1963 he received a Certificate in Physical Therapy from New York University. After working in several New York hospitals, he primarily provided physical therapy to patients in their homes in Monmouth and Ocean counties. He had a lifelong interest in current events and was an avid reader. His wife, Constance Ryan Savetsky, died in 2013. Surviving is a sister, May Schneiderman, Sun Lakes, Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 2:30 P.M. at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
