Obituary of John O'Carroll
Dr. John O’Carroll, 88 of Colts Neck, Passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park. Born in County Mayo, Ireland, he was born, raised and educated in Ireland. Coming to the United States in 1953, he lived in various cities and states prior to settling in Colts Neck 49 years ago.
Dr. O’Carroll started his family practice in Holmdel in 1975, retiring in 1989. He concurrently was a Physician for the Army National Guard from 1983 to 1989. He also served in various local hospitals, including Bayshore Hospital, Riverview Medical Center, and Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital. He was also a F.A.A. Medical Examiner from 1978 to 1989.
Dr. O’Carroll was a member of the Monmouth County Medical and State Societies, founding member of the American Trauma Society, Member of the American Society of Contemporary Medicine and Surgery, and a member of the American Running and Fitness Association.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Dr. O’Carroll was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s R.C. Church, Marlboro Township.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna M. O’Carroll in 1992.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Mary H. Shumock O’Carroll; a son, John F. O’Carroll, Colts Neck; three daughters, Mary E. O’Carroll and her husband Robert Kalan, Tijeras, New Mexico, Patricia S. O’Carroll-Degnan and her husband William, Freehold, and Antoinette C. Otrando and her husband Robert, Sunderland, Massachusetts; two sisters, Kathleen Bussell, Tarpon Springs, Florida, and Bernadette Lastinger, Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren, Michael and Justin Kalan, Matthew Degnan, and Catherine and Angela Otrando.
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church, Route 520, Marlboro Township. Interment will be private.
