Obituary of Maria Kaftanuk

Maria Kaftanuk, 93, passed peacefully at Merrimack Valley Health Center, Amesbury, Mass. On Oct 21, 2018. Maria was born in Milik, Poland. She was the eldest of six children, and taken from her home at age 16 during the war, to work in Austria. She married Roman Kaftanuk and they came to the United States in 1950 where they originally settled in San Jose, California, then eventually moved to New Jersey to be closer to the Ukrainian community and native friends. Maria had a passion in her life for sewing, cooking, baking, loving her children, and raising her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Ann Woodall and Irene Kaftanuk; her son, Steven; and three grandchildren, Aric, Jessie, and Chris. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Route 520, Marlboro. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
