Obituary of Denise D. Smith

Denise D. Smith, 81, of Colts Neck Township passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township. Mrs. Smith was born in New York City and had resided in Howell Township from 1964 to 1988 before moving to Colts Neck. She was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, N.Y. She was a substitute teacher and held numerous positions with Continental Insurance Company, Neptune Township before her retirement. Mrs. Smith was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Colts Neck where she was a member of the Martha Mary Guild. She was a member of the Colts Neck Seniors, a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of America, an accomplished artist and painter, and enjoyed reading. She was a strong, loving person who was devoted to her family and set a fine example of how to live life with dignity and class. Her beloved husband of 38 years, Charles Edward Smith, died in 1997. Surviving are two sons, Christopher Smith and his wife Che, and Brian Smith and wife Coleen; a daughter, Denise Smith Shockley and husband Roger; and seven grandchildren, Mercedes, Kara, Kelly, Connor, Megan, Andrew, and Charlie. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro Township.
