Obituary of Jane Sortore Lindenthal

Jane Sortore Lindenthal, 96, of Manalapan Township passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at home. She was born in Somerville and had resided in Metuchen and Westfield. Mrs. Lindenthal and her husband had resided in Manalapan for the past 55 years. Mrs. Lindenthal was a graduate of Bucknell University, Class of 1944. She was employed at the Y.W.C.A, Chester, Pennsylvania and later as a teacher at the Hartridge School for Girls, Plainfield. Mrs. Lindenthal was a member of the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Manalapan Township for over 50 years where she was a member of the Women’s Group and Bible Study. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She enjoyed sailing and time at the beach. She was predeceased by her parents, Emerson Sortore and Esther Powell Sortore; and a brother, Kimball J. Sortore. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, John W. Lindenthal; a son, John W. Lindenthal, II and his wife, Kathleen Keane Lindenthal, Fair Haven; a daughter, Ruth Lindenthal Petran and husband Roger Olsen, Eagan, Minnesota; a sister, Ruth Sortore Thompson, North Carolina; five grandchildren, James Henry Petran, Elizabeth Mary Petran, John W. Lindenthal, III, Aileen Keane Lindenthal, and Anne Rose Lindenthal; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The interment will follow at the Old Tennent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
