Obituary of Ruth E. Vogel
Ruth E. Shannon Vogel, 93, of Freehold died on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at The Manor, Freehold Township. She was a graduate of Belleville High School, The Hospital of St. Barnabas for Women and Children, Newark, attended Seton Hall University, and Brigham Young University ultimately receiving her degree from Thomas Edison State College.
She was a ship’s nurse for American Export Company prior to joining the United States Air Force Nurse Corps. While in service she trained as a flight nurse graduating second in her class and also served as a nurse recruitment officer.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Freehold where she was a choir member, a member of the Seekers Adult Class and past secretary and chairwoman of the Phoebe Circle. When younger she taught Sunday School for many years and did volunteer service at the former John L. Montgomery Medical Home and was a hospice volunteer.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William, in 2010 after 50 years of marriage.
Surviving are three stepchildren, Clifford Vogel, California, Dorianne Metz and husband Robert, Mount Laurel, and Geralyn Myers and husband Jeff, Texas; and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Freehold on Monday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown where she be laid to rest with her husband.
