My father accomplished much in his life. He was born in Queens, NY, the youngest of Irish immigrant, Martin and Mary McKeon’s six kids. His siblings were Martin, May, John, Gertrude and Margaret. He was much younger, the closest being 15 years older. Dad served in the Navy and then went to St John’s University. He met Joan Kirwan, the love of his life, and they married in 1962. They had six kids within 10 years – typical Irish Catholic family. He worked for the Port Authority of NY/NJ for over 30 years. He went to Fordham Law School at night and got his Law degree. (I remember the big party when he passed the Bar!) He was always called to a vocation. Dad was ordained a Catholic Deacon circa 1980. He supported Saint Gabriel’s parish in Marlboro, NJ for many years. After he retired, he went to Georgian Court College and earned a degree in Theology. He was a Chaplain for Hospice. Dad and Mom volunteered at a soup kitchen in NYC for many years. They also travelled to Ireland several times. Dad was a big happy Irishman. His many extended family members remember sitting around singing Irish songs after Weddings and other celebrations. He was always one of the leaders. He was devoted to God and his family. He loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He will be missed.
