Norm was a man of principal. He never wavered in his beliefs. He lived his life by his code of honesty and his love of country and family. When Norm retired he took up cooking. My mother who lived with my family had died, my two children were in college and my husband Jim worked 4 to 12 shift, Norm or Sylvia would call me at work to have me "try Norms newest creation". I know they did it so I wouldn't go home to an empty house. That was love. I tried many of his dishes and enjoyed every one. I was delighted when he and Missy got together and they shared 16 happy years. Not often you can find a second life . Norm and Sylvia and later Missy came with me on my many trips, As we age we look back and savor all those treasured memories. Thank you Norm, Sylvia and Missy for all the good times we shared on Hilltop Road. My beloved Jim once said, we all grew up on Hilltop Road and we did! Rest in peace, my friend.

Dear Pop pop, Where do I even begin? First, I just want you to know how dear you were and still are to me. I have so many amazing memories with you and was fortunate enough to live only a few miles away. I recently found a photo of me sitting on your lap as you cut me an apple (you knew how much I didn’t like the skin). I adored you as my pop pop and my friend. You always guided me in the right direction and patiently listened to all my stories. I continue to follow my dream of becoming an educator because you taught me to never give up. I remember all our laughs and story telling as we went out to dinner after visiting missy in the manor. We always had the best times, even sippin on a Jack and Coke or your favorite, a Manhattan. I really miss you and hope you know how much I always appreciated everything you did for me. I can remember when we went to the liberty science center when Christopher was a baby, or when you came to see me in Annie, I know I made you, nanny, and missy so proud when I graduated from Rutgers and it was an honor having you share that with me. You will always and forever be my first love. Also, Thank you for writing my name in the cement in front of our old house on Hilltop road. That will remain their forever, just like you will in my heart. Love always and forever, Sarah Irene

Grandpop, you are everything I aspire to be. Your WWII stories never got old, nor did any story you told, the fireflies at Hilltop Rd were always magical to me, you took me fishing and to Yankee stadium. You will always be synonymous with Habitate for Humanity. You gifted me your golf clubs that I used for 15 years and I’ll never forget watching you play softball in an Over 70 league. You were awesome, thank you Grandpop for all the memories, they will be forever cherished.

Norm was a great man, citizen, scoutmaster, grandfather, father, step-father and husband. We, the Sutphen family, are fortunate to have had him in our lives for over 50+ years. Knowing you have sailed away to the promised land lightens our sorrow and knowing you are looking over your family here on earth is comforting.

Norm was a man who loved his country and served his country. We were the lucky ones who got to hear his stories and see the joy in his face as he told them. We will hold his joy and his memory in our hearts forever. Sending all of our love to the Hazell family. Rest In Peace, Norm. Love, The Kassop Family

Dad, You were an inspiration to all your children and grandchildren. You lived life to the fullest and did it the right way which is the only way you knew. We were all blessed and proud of all your many accomplishments and the man you were. Someone who we always admired, respected and could always talk to for advice. You served your country with dignity and were proud of that each and every day. We were all so blessed to have such a wonderful man we call Dad and Grandpop. Now as you are in heaven reunited with mom, your parents, your brothers and sisters and many more family and friends you are home with them once again. That makes all of us happy because family was the most important thing to you. It has been hard to see you go from us, but you gave us such happiness in life that we will never forget. We will think of you everyday of our lives and thank God for giving us such a loving man we had here for 93+ years. You changed so many lives and committed everything in your life for family happiness. Now you can rest and must know you will be missed by our entire family but never will you be forgotten. With a heavy heart I say to you, I love you Dad! Chris
