Grace Mary Emmons
Grace Mary Emmons, 87, of Farmingdale peacefully entered into eternal life with her loving family by her side on May 31, 2015. Grace was born on 11/19/1927 in Red Bank. Through her endless love, kindness, and generosity, she lived out her given name “Grace” perfectly.
Grace was the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Duerkes and was the beloved wife of the late Earle Emmons. She was the loving mother of seven children, Carol Beale and her husband Dennis of Canton, Michigan, Marjorie Emmons of Burlington, Vermont, Janet Popyk and her husband Jon of Chesterfield, Robert Emmons and his fiancé Doreen Cogar of Farmingdale, William Emmons of Wall, James Emmons of Howell, and John Emmons of Farmingdale. She was the second mother to her niece Linda Rice, Hawthorne Woods, IL and adoring grandmother of ten grandchildren, Karen Callockio, Kimberly Even, Kathy Beale, Jonathan Popyk, Michael Emmons, Jennifer Schaffener, William Emmons, Joanna Emmons, Monica Emmons, Robb Emmons, and eleven great-grandchildren, Kevin and Sarah Callockio, Katelyn Ujkaj, Danielle, Jordyn, Joel and Jenna Even, Alexandra Popyk, Dominic Emmons, and Ryan and Kaylin Schaffener. Grace was the sister and best friend of Violet O’Shea, and James Duerkes and predeceased by Gertrude Garvey, Lillian Byrne, Sonny Duerkes, Robert Duerkes, Henry Duerkes, and John Duerkes. She was also the favorite aunt of several nieces and nephews, and cherished friend to Dorothy Doyle, Joan Leavitt, and Grace Byrne.
Grace was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Farmingdale. She attended St. Rose High School in Belmar. She held several jobs including the Charms Company and Kohr’s in Asbury Park, but the job she held dearest to her heart was that of wife and mother to her seven children and guardian to many others. She was there for anyone that needed a hot meal...candy…but especially a home. Grace would welcome them with open arms. She truly was “Amazing Grace.”
Calling hours will be Wednesday June 3, 2015 from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold and Thursday from 8:45 AM. to 9:30 AM The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 31 Asbury Rd. Farmingdale. Entombment will be immediately following at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Route 66, Neptune.
Donations in Grace’s name can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
