Obituary of Elsie Sokol
Elsie Sokol, 92, of Highland Beach, Florida died on February 14, 2018 in Boynton Beach, Florida. Miss Sokol was born in Freehold and had resided there and in Rumson before retiring to Florida.
Miss Sokol’s career in Monmouth County banking spanned 50 years, starting as a bookkeeper in 1944 with the Freehold Trust Company. Thereafter, she was elevated by the Bank to the positions of executive vice president, bank secretary and treasurer with The Central Jersey Bank and Trust Company. In 1978 she was appointed to the positions of president and chief operating officer of the Bank. In 1981, Miss Sokol began service as the Bank’s chief executive officer until her retirement from Central Jersey Bancorp and its successor. It was reported that she was the first woman in Monmouth County to hold such executive positions.
During her career, Miss Sokol served on various philanthropic, civic and educational boards, including as a Trustee of the Brookdale Community College.
She was predeceased by her parents, Annastazia and Jacob Sokol and two brothers, Jerry and Peter Sokol, all of whom she loved very much.
Surviving are her niece, Lois D. Wessel (Frederick); her nephew, J. Peter Sokol (Jeanne); her grand-nephews Jason Wessel and Erik Wessel; and her grand-nieces Anastasia Bullock and Lauren Sokol.
Funeral services will be held at the Colts Neck Reformed Church, 72 Highway 537 West, Colts Neck on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott D. Brown officiating. The interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
