Obituary of Emily Bershad

Emily Bershad, 93, of Freehold Township died on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Applewood Estates Health Care Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Bershad was born in Troy, N.Y. and had resided in Freehold Township since 1966. She had resided at Applewood Estates for the past 13 years. She was a graduate of Russell Sage College, Troy and had served in the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas and Okinawa during World War II. Mrs. Bershad was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. She enjoyed writing poetry, reading, and crossword puzzles. She loved her dogs, was a member of the American Dog Owners Association and a dog therapy volunteer at the Montgomery Care Center, Freehold Township. Her husband, Eugene L. Bershad died in 1992. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to noon followed a prayer service to be held at noon.
