Obituary of Mary Young Connelly

Mary Young Connelly, 94, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Colts Neck, died Monday, June 15, 2015 at home. She was born in Elmsford, N.Y. and had resided in North White Plains, N.Y. for 37 years before moving to New Jersey. She was in the first graduating class of Mount Carmel School, Elmsford. She was a graduate and valedictorian of Hamilton High School and attended Drake Business School. She was a master knitter and an avid N.Y. Yankees and University of Notre Dame fan. She took a strong interest in politics and church affairs. She was very proud of her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. Mrs. Connelly was a corporate secretary and office and account manager for H.H. Benfield Electric Supply Company, North White Plains, N.Y. She later worked as a teacher’s aide at the Conover Road School, Colts Neck and as a sales associate at Lord & Taylor, Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, John M. Connelly, Jr. Surviving are her children, Mary Ellen and Peter Griffin, John and Patricia Connelly, and Neil and Susan Connelly; and grandchildren, Nicholas James and wife Nicole, Tristan Scaglione and husband Vincent, John A. Connelly, Elizabeth Connelly and Chris Connelly. Visiting hours will be held at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 72 East Main Street, Elmsford, N.Y. on Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mount Carmel Church on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
