Obituary of Walter James Cycak

Walter James Cycak, 96, of Manalapan Township died on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home, Edison Township. He was born in Jeanette, Pennsylvania. Mr. Cycak was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served as a medic in the European Theater of Operations and participated in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland campaigns. He received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He and his wife owned and operated Lee and Walt’s Refreshments, Englishtown before their retirement. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church, Manalapan where he was an usher. He served as Mayor of Manalapan Township from 1963 to 1965. Mr. Cycak was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7919, Manalapan Township. His wife, Leona A. Cycak, died in 2002. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter S. and Kathleen Cycak and Donald V. and Sharon Cycak; and six grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica, Christa, Matthew, Jennifer and Christopher. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated St. Thomas More R. C. Church, 186 Gordons Corner Road, Manalapan on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) would be appreciated.
