Obituary of Dorothy Eileen Alexander

Dorothy Eileen Alexander, 84, of Colts Neck Township died Monday, September 11, 2017 at home. She was born in Jersey City and had resided in Colts Neck for many years. She was a real estate agent for Berg Realty, Matawan before her retirement. Mrs. Alexander was a communicant of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Colts Neck. She was a caring mother of ten, whose love had no limits. She was one of the most courageous people one could ever meet. She endured the death of her own father at a very early age and then the death of her husband and three sons. And still never stopped loving those she cared for most. When grand and great grandchildren came along she loved and cared for them as well. Mom always had or made time for fun with her grand and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James Alexander, Sr., in 2003; three sons, Michael in 1986, Thomas in 1992, and James, Jr. in 1999; and a son-in-law, Jeff Cook in 1990. Surviving are five sons, Frank, Tinton Falls, Jeffrey, Asbury Park, Doug and wife Christine, Freehold Township, Christian and wife Kathleen, Dayton and Robert and wife Susan, Wall Township; two daughters, Dorothy Cook, Colts Neck and Diane Schreiber and husband Henry, Freehold, daughter-in-law, Mary Alexander, Matawan; 14 grandchildren, Maria, Alex, Jill, Leah, Doug, Jr., Andrea, Jeffrey, Elizabeth, James, Alexis, Thomas, Tina, Olivia, and Kellie; and five great grandchildren, Carmela, Eric, Charlotte, James, and Sofia. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck on Friday at 9:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum.
