Obituary of Carlton Borden
Carlton “Bud” Borden, 88, of Marlboro Township died Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Monmouth Crossing, Freehold Township. He was born in Freehold.
He served in the U.S. Army 321st Signal Battalion, 7th Corps, A Company, from 1950 to 1952.
He was a splicer for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company where he was employed for 33 years before his retirement in 1985.
He was a 70 year member of the Marlboro Fire Company and served as Chief in 1962. He was a past president of the fire company, a former commission of Marlboro Township Fire District No. 1, a past president of the Marlboro Township Exempt Association, and a member of the New Jersey State Fire Chief’s Association and the New York State Fire Chief’s Association.
He was a member and elder of the Old Brick Reformed Church, Marlboro Township. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; the 321st Signal Battalion Reunion Group; and was a coach in the Marlboro Township Pop Warner Football.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty Brocklebank Borden who died on February 8, 2017, and daughter, Jill Ann Borden who died in 1972.
He was also predeceased by his brothers, Harold, John, Charles, James who was killed in action during World War II, and Rodney Borden and a sister, Meltha Casey.
Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Greg Dlugosz, Beachwood, Sharon and Steve Wingert, Bedminster, Mary Lou and Glenn Reilly, Greentown, Pennsylvania, and Carol and David Schreier, Freehold; seven grandchildren, Jesse, Aaron, and Kyle Dlugosz and wife Heather, Andrew Wingert and wife Kim, Courtney Augustin, Jillian and husband Chuck Wojtaszek, and Caleb Schreier; and great grandchildren, Jude, Evelyn, Elizabeth and Finley.
Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Old Brick Reformed Church, 490 County Road 520 East, Marlboro on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at the church cemetery. Marlboro Fire Company services will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Old Brick Reformed Church, PO Box 153, Marlboro, NJ 07746 would be appreciated.
