Obituary of Helen S. Simkus

Helen Simkus, 92, of Manchester, passed away peacefully at home on July 18. Born on January 1, 1925 in Philadelphia, she moved to Brooklyn, New York after high school and worked for Chase Manhattan Bank, retiring in 1984, when she moved to Manchester, New Jersey to be closer to her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Julia and Frank Simkus. Surviving are her sister, Frances Dorf; five nieces and nephews, Kim Prendergast and her husband Michael, Laura Dorf, Chris Dorf, Donna Dorf, Steven Dorf and his wife Michele; and nine great-nieces and nephews, Jamie Bergstol, Jenna Edwards, Christopher Dorf, Kelly Ciamarra, Zachary Dorf, Michael Prendergast, Christina Dorf, Jessica Dorf, Justin Dorf; one great-great niece; and two great-great nephews. Helen was a beloved aunt to all of the members of her family and will be greatly missed. She was kind, compassionate, generous and selfless. She cared for her aging parents while working as a bank clerk and managing two apartment complexes. In her younger years she enjoyed spending time with her sister and many cousins, breeding Pomeranian dogs and traveling. An especially memorable trip was when she went cross country with her sister and her cousins. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 20 from 7-9 pm at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, NJ 07728. Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 21 at Higgins Memorial Home at 10 am, followed by a burial at Saint Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
