Obituary of William E. Jacobs

William E. Jacobs, 88, of Freehold died on Monday, June 19, 2017 at The Manor, Freehold Township. He was born in Kearny and was a lifelong Freehold resident. He was a graduate of Freehold High School, Class of 1947. He played on the Gulistan baseball and basketball teams in Freehold. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office, Freehold before his retirement. He raced and trained standardbred horses along the east coast for over 50 years and was a member of the United States Trotting Association. His wife, Ann V. Jacobs, died in 1993. He was also predeceased by a grandchild and a great grandchild. Surviving are two sons, William E. Jacobs, Jr. and Donald M. Jacobs and Carol; his daughters, Valerie Johnson and husband Chuck, Lynn Wagner and husband Buzz, Cynthia Wood and husband Michael, Eileen McGackin and husband Richard, and Elaine Kiernan and husband Michael; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Janet McCloud. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. In lieu of flowers memorial donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
