Obituary of Derryl Roger Carpenter

Derryl Roger Carpenter, Sr. was born April 16, 1951 to Lorene and William Carpenter in Albany, Georgia. He departed this life on May 7, 2017 at The Manor Rehabilitation Center, Freehold, NJ. Roger as he was affectionately known attended the Freehold School District and he graduated from Marlboro High School in Marlboro, NJ. He was previously employed with General Cables in Perth Amboy, NJ and Hercules Construction in Parlin, NJ. He was last employed with Woodworth Construction Company in Matawan, NJ and a member of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local 595 of Ewing, NJ until his retirement. In his younger years, he was very athletic and loved to play football. He went on to obtain his boiler license to further his passion of working with his hands. Refurbishing old cars and working construction was his life. He was also a great debater. Roger would argue with his friends for however long it took to get his point across. He refused to let you win. His most favorite pastime was spending quality time with his grandkids. It always brought him joy to see them happy. He was predeceased by his parents. Roger leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 46 years, Sylvia Carpenter of Freehold, NJ; two sons, Darryl Roger Carpenter, Jr of Freehold, NJ and Raymond Rogers of Willingboro, NJ; two daughters, Raylynn Carpenter of Freehold, NJ and Annice Carpenter of Lakewood, NJ; two Godsons, Antar Thomas of Hazelton, PA and Jamal Samuels of Freehold, NJ; one Goddaughter, Tequia Lester of Toms River, NJ; seven grandsons, six granddaughters, four great grandsons, one great granddaughter and a host of other relatives and close friends. Funeral arrangements are as follows Thursday, May 18, 2017, viewing from 9:00A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Funeral immediately following at BETHEL A.M.E. CHURCH, 3 Waterworks Rd., Freehold, NJ 07728.
