Obituary of John Thomas Allen

John Thomas Allen Jr., 67, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away at his home on Friday, April 28, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. Johnny was born in Neptune and grew up in Freehold where he graduated from Freehold High School, class of ’67 and Monmouth University, class of ’71. He resided in Monmouth Beach prior to moving to Myrtle Beach. Johnny was a talented artist and former art teacher in the Freehold Township School District. He loved to travel, paint and work in his gardens. He is predeceased by his parents Betty Gunn and John Thomas Allen and brother-in-law Larry Petrula. He is survived by his brother Jeff Allen, sisters and their spouses Bonnie Petrula, Debbie and Dennis Bell, Cindy and Mike DiBenedetto, Betty and Art Sullivan, and Lori and Hugh O’Neill, 17 nieces and nephews, 17 great nieces and nephews and long time friend Victor Main and their dog Willie. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 10th from 11:00 to 12:30 at Higgins Memorial Home with the Burial Office and Holy Eucharist following at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 33 Throckmorton Street, Freehold. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Mercy Care, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401-7335 would be appreciated.
