Obituary of Richard D. Galiardo

Richard D. Galiardo, 78, of Forked River died on March 16, 2017 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was born in Elizabeth and had resided in Kenilworth, then Piscataway from 1965 to 1973, and in Colts Neck Township from 1973 to 1992 before moving to Forked River. He was a graduate of Springfield Regional High School, Class of 1956. He was vice president of National Fittings Corporation, Farmingdale and the owner of Carrara Custom Cabinets, Route 9, Howell Township. He and his partner also owned the Hillsborough Country Club for several years. He was an avid gun collector and skeet and trap shooter. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ground Swipers Rod and Gun Club, Lacey Township, and Ducks Unlimited. He and his wife, the former Audrey Sockler, were married on August 31, 1963. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by a devoted son and daughter, David J. Galiardo and Kathleen Anne Bacon and husband Kevin; a brother, John W. Galiardo and his wife Joan; two grandchildren, Richard Shead and Jeanette Bacon; two nephews, Richard C. and his wife Christine and their four children and Christopher D. and wife Gardenia and their two children; a niece, Elizabeth Galiardo and her husband Mark Spencer and their two children; and many close cousins and friends who grew up together in Elizabeth. Richard was also predeceased by his parents, Genevieve (Luxich) Galiardo and Joseph Galiardo. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Colts Neck Reformed Church, 139 Route 537, Colts Neck on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations to the Salvation Army or the National Rifle Association would be appreciated.
