Obituary of Gladys Thompkins

Gladys Thompkins, 82, of Lakewood died on March 9, 2017 at home. She was born in Long Branch and had resided in Lakewood since 1968. She was a member and trustee of St. James A.M.E. Church, Woodsville. She served as a member of the Missionary Society. She was a longtime volunteer for Ocean, Inc., Lakewood. Mrs. Thompkins was a clerk for the New York Life Insurance Company until her retirement. Her husband, John Thompkins, Jr. died in 2011. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Susan Thompkins. Surviving are her children, Margaret Barnes and husband Morris, Theresa Bailey and husband Martin, Faye Thompkins, James Thompkins, John Thompkins and wife Gina, and Ivy Thompkins; two sisters, Sandra Conover and Evelyn Joseph; her sisters-in-law, Annie Conover, Minnie Jackson, and Vergie Brown; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m.
