Obituary of Richard F. Clancy

Richard F. Clancy, 81, of Freehold passed away at home on January 6, 2017. Dick was born and raised in Freehold Borough, later moving to Freehold Township where he resided with his wife of 59 years. Dick was a graduate of Freehold High School and proud veteran of the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. Dick served in the Freehold Fire Dept. Richardson Engine Company No. 2 and later joined East Freehold Fire Company where he served as Chief. Dick was a longstanding Commissioner of Freehold Township Fire District No. 2. Dick was predeceased by his mother and father, Constantine and Leerena, as well as his sister Connie and infant grandson and namesake, Richard Charles Clancy. He is survived by his wife MaryLou Thompson Clancy, son Tim and wife Liza of Freehold and granddaughters, Tara and Kate, who were his pride and joy. As a lifelong resident of Freehold, Dick was well known whether by virtue of being plumber, fireman, neighbor, or coach. Dick was the embodiment of the expression, “If you want something done right, do it yourself,” and struggled with being sidelined in his final years by pulmonary fibrosis. He will be missed profoundly and remembered fondly. Services will be held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St. Freehold, with visitation on Monday January 9 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. A funeral service will commence at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 10 at 11 A.M. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. East Freehold Fire Company services will be held on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
