Obituary of Daphne H. Ollwerther
Daphne H. Ollwerther, 90, of Freehold died Dec. 16, 2016, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. She was born in New Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of the Freehold area.
Mrs. Ollwerther was a special education teacher’s aide for 26 years for the Freehold Township schools and worked as a nursing assistant at CentraState Medical Center. She was recognized by the hospital for more than 2,000 volunteer hours.
She was a member and deaconess of the First Baptist Church of Freehold and a Cub Scout den mother. She was a member and past matron of Molly Pitcher Chapter No. 198, Order of the Eastern Star for 69 years, and also served as worthy district deputy and grand officer.
Mrs. Ollwerther loved the shore, and spent many summers at the family home on the Metedeconk River. She always had a positive outlook and a kind word for others, and loved her cats.
She was a graduate of Freehold High School; Centenary Junior College, Hackettstown; and the Columbia School of Dental Hygiene.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. William R. and Winifred Hawkins; and her husband, William F. Ollwerther.
Surviving are sons William R. and his wife Carol, and Bruce A. and his wife Tina; daughter Nancy C.; grandchildren Geoffrey V. and Alyssa I.; brothers-in-law Donald and his wife Nancy, and Robert and his wife Pam; many nieces and nephews; and her granddoggies.
Visiting will be at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold, on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church, 81 West Main St., Freehold, on Tuesday at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. Order of the Eastern Star services will be held on Monday at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to VNA Health Group, Red Bank, would be appreciated.
