Obituary of Catherine Marguerite Collins Holtz Zukowsky
Catherine Marguerite Collins Holtz Zukowsky, of Charlotte, NC passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in Charlotte, NC.
Marguerite was born December 13, 1919 in Freehold to Howard and Margaret McGackin Collins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Elmer F. Holtz, her second husband, Walter Zukowsky, and her sister, Ruth Collins Koschek.
She is survived by her five children, John (Jackie) Holtz of Freehold, Robert (Theresa) Holtz, of New Vernon, Kathleen Holtz Fredericks of Colts Neck, Michael Holtz, of Randolph, and Mary Lynn (John) Cowie of Charlotte, NC; her eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Her extended family includes a number of beloved nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Marguerite was a 1933 graduate of St. Rose of Lima School, Freehold and a 1937 graduate of Freehold High School. After her marriage she moved to Marlboro, then Morristown, then Union before finally settling in Charlotte, NC twenty years ago.
Marguerite was a dedicated employee of the Morristown Post Office for over thirty years.
Marguerite loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved dancing, especially the polka, and cooking everyone’s favorite foods. Affectionately known as “Red” in her younger days and “Nanna Bingo” by her grandchildren, she was known for her beautiful red hair and playing bingo.
Marguerite’s family would like to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of the kind people who took exceptional care of her during this journey. Her sharp mind and quick wit will be sorely missed by all who know and love her. “Little Flower, in this hour, show your power.”
Because she did not want anyone to go hungry, Marguerite always contributed to her local food bank and would encourage you to do the same in her name. Marguerite had a soft spot for dogs, especially her "furry" grandchild, BJ; memorial donations in her name may be made to The Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203.
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
