Obituary of Donald F. Wood

Donald F. Wood, 87, of Freehold Township died November 5, 2016 at BrandyWine at Howell, Howell Township. He was born in Trenton. He was a graduate of Rutgers University. He was the manager of the money room at Freehold Raceway where he was employed for 39 years before his retirement. He was also a journalist for the Asbury Park Press, Freehold Transcript, and Red Bank Register. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member and past commander of Monmouth Post No. 54, American Legion, Freehold. He had served as chairman of the Freehold Township Planning Board in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He was a former member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold. He is survived by a special friend, Ann Serafin. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. American Legion services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Compassionate Care Hospice, 1130 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ 08753 would be appreciated.
