Obituary of Donald George Higdon

Donald George Higdon, 80, of West Windsor, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Princeton Medical Center. Born in Newark, he lived in Rutherford and Ridgewood prior to moving to West Windsor three years ago. Mr. Higdon was co-owner of Higdon Elevator Company, Hackensack, for over 40 years, retiring five year ago. He was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, Ridgewood; and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a Board Chair of the Board of Directors of Youth Consultation Services, Hackensack; a member of the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra; and an instructor of the Alexander Technique. He was predeceased by his brother, Darrin Higdon. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary Martin Higdon; a son, Andrew D. Higdon, Quincy, Massachusetts; a daughter, Laura J. Higdon, Ph.D., Chicago, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Mary Higdon, Mahwah; and several nieces. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Rosedale Cemetery, 408 Orange Road, Montclair. Donations in his memory to Y.C.S. Foundation, 25 East Salem Street, 3rd Floor, Hackensack, NJ 07601 would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
