Obituary of Robert William Conklin
Robert William Conklin, 76, of Jackson Township died Friday, July 14, 2006 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, Newark. Mr. Conklin was born in Newark and had lived there until enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his military service he moved to Freehold in 1953 where he resided before moving to Jackson Township three years ago.
Mr. Conklin was head custodian at the Marshall W. Errickson School, Freehold Township before his retirement in 1996. He was the owner and operator of Brown’s Trucking, Newark from 1953 to 1955.
He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church and a former Vice-Commander of American Legion Post No. 54, both of Freehold. He had attended Rutgers University, Newark.
He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Lynch and a sister, Eileen Gleason.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Zetwick Conklin; four sons, Robert J. Conklin and his wife, Linda, Farmingdale, John Conklin and his wife Melissa, Burlington, Joseph Conklin and his wife Christa, Atlantic Highlands, and Michael Conklin, Ewing; two daughters, Kathleen Thompson, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Patricia Nelson and her husband Mark, Payson, Arizona; two sisters, Margaret Devaney, Middletown Township and Barbara Dugan, York, Maine; nine grandchildren, Kelly and Kayde Thompson, John, Ian and Ethan Conklin, Alan and Annie Wrobleski, and Allison and Tricia Boutote; and 20 nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 would be appreciated. American Legion services will be held on Monday at 7:15 P.M.
