Obituary of Albert Mackewich
Albert Mackewich, 81, died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Mr. Mackewich was born in Perth Amboy and lived in Freehold and Marlboro Townships before moving to Florida in 1990.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. This was the first time the Coast Guard was ever deployed overseas.
Mr. Mackewich was a member of Operating Engineers Local No. 825 for 46 years, before his retirement.
Mr. Mackewich was a member of American Legion, Mid-Point Cape Coral Post No. 492 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Moose Lodge No. 2199, all of Cape Coral, Florida; Operating Engineers Retirees Club; and was an organizer of Local 825 Blood Blank in conjunction with Blood Bank of Central Jersey.
His wife, Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Mackewich, died in 2004. He was also predeceased by a brother, Walter Mackevich, a sister, Mildred Wood and brother, Wesley Mackevich.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Don Powell, Millstone Township and Elizabeth and Nick Castellano, Brookfield, Conn, a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Susan Mackewich, Red Bank; ; a sister, Helen Stolarz, Fords; sister and Brother-in-law, Arlene and Tom Hankinson, Morganville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Alexis, Nicholas, Lindsay, and Ashley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations in Al's name for Pancreatic Cancer research would be appreciated.
