Obituary of John Joseph Barrett
Former Freehold resident John Joseph “Jack” Barrett, Jr., 55, of Escondido, California died Thursday, July 27, 2006 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born in Bayonne and lived in Freehold for 15 years before moving to Amarillo, Texas and later to Escondido where he resided for the past 27 years.
He was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, Class of 1968 and Drexel University, Class of 1973, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
Mr. Barrett was a quality control and facilities manager at Judd Wire of San Marcos, California for 25 years and was a member of the Quality Assurance Society. Besides being active in volunteerism, he was a devotee of music and enjoyed skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and camping. He had recently earned a California real estate license.
His father, John Joseph Barrett, Sr. of Freehold, died in 2004.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Kathy Lichlyter; his mother, Dorothy Barrett, Freehold; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Jean Barrett, Round Rock, Texas; brother Rick Barrett, Vista, California; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Russ Wehrle, Freehold Township and sister and brother-in-law Ginny Barrett and Jim Llewellyn, Hopewell.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Freehold on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ 07702. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
