Obituary of Matilda Elizabeth Slafkan

Matilda Elizabeth “Gigi” Slafkan, 97, of Colts Neck Township died Friday, August 18, 2006 at Applewood Estates Healthcare Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Slafkan was born in Elizabeth and had resided there before moving to Colts Neck Township 15 years ago. Mrs. Slafkan was a member of the Colts Neck Reformed Church, Colts Neck Township. She loved spending time with her family, caring for her great grandchildren, and enjoyed the beach, the ocean, and fishing. Her husband, Emil August Slafkan, died in 1972. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Pamela Lee Hirsch in 1997. Surviving are a daughter, Carole Hirsch, Colts Neck Township; two granddaughters, Wendy Janowski and her husband Edward, and Dr. Linda Hirsch Soriano and her husband William Soriano; four great grandchildren, Hunter and Austin Janowski and Raymond and Pamela Soriano; and a longtime companion, Ralph Buonerba. Relatives and friends are invited to a brief service of prayer and remembrance at the Colts Neck Reformed Church, 72 Highway 537 West, Colts Neck on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. Chris VandeBunte officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Colts Neck Reformed Church, PO Box 57, Colts Neck, NJ 07722. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
