Obituary of William McGantlin

William O. “Mike” McGantlin, 96, o f Manalapan Township died Friday, August 25, 2006 at home after a long illness. Born in Manalapan Township he was a third generation lifelong resident. He had worked his parent’s Tennent farm where he was born and raised. He had been employed with both the Englishtown and the Jamesburg School Systems. During World War II he was employed as a mechanic at the Raritan Arsenal. He was a police officer of Manalapan Township for 19 years becoming Manalapan Township’s first Chief of Police in 1962 resigning in 1969. During the 1950’s and 1960’s he was a member of the New Jersey Division of Civil Defense, Monmouth County S.P.C.A. and Manalapan Township’s Dog Warden. After 20 years of service as a Fingerprint Technician he retired in 1975 from the New Jersey State Police Identification Bureau, West Trenton. He worked demonstrating blacksmithing and farming at the historical Longstreet Farm of the Monmouth County Parks System during the 1980’s. He was a member of Old Tennent Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years before joining the congregation of Grace Lutheran Church, Freehold in 1975. The son of the late William and Caroline McGantlin, he is predeceased by a sister, Mary Salter and two brothers, Cortland and George. His wife, of 45 years, Emily Borsuk McGantlin, died in 1987. His son, Michael Kevin McGantlin died in 2005. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Thomas Boleski and a daughter, Marilynn McGantlin, all at home; four grandchildren, Kathleen Zalewski and her husband Adam, Monroe Township, Laura Boleski and fiancé Brad Bailous, Old Bridge Township, Michael Kevin Huemiller, Spring Lake, and Lisa Huemiller, Brick Township; four great grandchildren, William and Christopher Zalewski, Brandon Williams, and Sophia Huemiller; a sister-in-law, Connie Borsuk, Monroe Township; and Christine Holm, Manchester Township; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 A.M. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent.
