Obituary of Joseph W. Harney
Joseph W. Harney, 81, of Freehold Township died Monday, August 3, 2015 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in New York City and had resided in Freehold Township since 1962.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.
He was a golf course ranger for the Monmouth County Park System before his retirement.
Mr. Harney was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church where he served as a Eucharist minister; a member and Past Grand Knight of Freehold Council No. 1672, Knight of Columbus; and a member of Past Faithful Navigator of Monsignor Kivelitz General Assembly, Forth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 54 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4374, both of Freehold.
Joe was a loving husband and father and a great provider for his family.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Bryan and a brother Richard.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Clarke Harney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Carol Harney and Chris and Dorothy Harney; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Jack Schraepfer and Jean and John Wickham; seven sisters; six grandchildren, Glen, Caitlin, John, Sarah, Jessica, and Matthew; and great grandson, Brendan.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Friday at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.
