Obituary of George Henry Wanschura
George Henry Wanschura, 88 of Asbury Park died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Care One at Jackson, Jackson Township. Born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, he attended Cretin Military High School. After his military service, he lived in Freehold for 30 years prior to moving to Asbury Park 11 years ago. Mr. Wanschura was a plant manager for 3-M Company, Freehold for 26 years, retiring 16 years ago. Prior to that, he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad. He received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1940. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War Two, where he achieved the rank of Captain in charge of an Ordnance No. 1 Company in the Battle of Okinawa. He was a former member of the Optimist Club of Freehold. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret V. Hardwick Wanschura in 1995, and a son, Joseph in 1960. Surviving are two sons, Robert G. Wanschura, Vienna, Georgia, and William S. Wanschura, Hamilton Square; five daughters, Mary Kay Merritt and Clare Freeman, both of Freehold, Margaret McGinn, Howell Township, Ann Wanschura, Ocean Grove, and Joni Biniaz, Oceanside, California; a brother, Edward Wanschura, San Jose, California; 15 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 7:00 P.M.
