Obituary of William Stephen Fredericks
William Stephen Fredericks, Sr., 83, of MillstoneTownship, departed this life on Wednesday, November 1, 2006, surrounded by his family at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Stephen John Fredericks and Florence Larson Fredericks.
He was a 1941 graduate from AllentownHigh School, Allentown, NJ, where he played baseball and basketball. Bill was drafted into the US Army Air Force during World War II. He served in the 106th Infantry Division seeing action in France, Germany and Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, and was discharged from the 368th Bombardment Group.
He was a Draftsman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, New Brunswick. He retired as Head Draftsman after 32 years of dedication to New Jersey’s premier highway in 1987.
Bill was an environmentalist and took great joy & pride in his tree farm “Olde Sawmill Acres”. He was proud of its status as a State of New Jersey Tree Farm for more than 25 years. He was an early member of the New Jersey Forestry Association, served on the Millstone Twp. Planning Board, the Monmouth County Juvenile Review Board and participated in various Millstone Community Theatre Productions. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Freehold.
He served as assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for Millstone Twp. Boy Scout Troop 116. He created a camp ground for the troop on the property and spent weeks each summer with the scouts at Forestburg Scout Reservation. Bill also enjoyed his involvement in MonmouthCounty 4-H Club activities as a 4-H Leader.
He leaves his loving devoted wife of 58 years, Lillian; five children and their spouses. Kathleen (KL) of New York, NY, Ruth, William, Jr. and his wife Barbara, Barbara and Jerry Ostrander, and Andrew and his wife Patricia all residing on his tree farm in Millstone Township; ten grandchildren – Jarred, Bryan, Nichole and Christina Fredericks, Haley and Austin (AJ) Ostrander, and Tyler, Logan, Aidan and Liam Fredericks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the name of William S. Fredericks, Sr. Donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, New York, NY or the Millstone Township First Aid Squad.
Visitation hours will be held at the funeral home for family and friends on Sunday, November 5, 2006, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2006 at 11:30 A.M. at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold.
