Obituary of Clare S. Machu
Clare S. Machu, 93, of Howell passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Preferred Care of Wall, Allenwood. She was born on July 4, 1923 to Frank and Madeline Soden in Freehold. Except for three years in Lawrence, Mass. she was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County.
She was a graduate of Freehold High School, Class of 1941 and was active in organizing class reunions every ten years until 2011. She was an avid New England Patriots fan, enjoyed gardening, and was well known as an accomplished at-home Jeopardy player.
She was employed by the Freehold Soil Conservation District for over 20 years retiring in 1985.
She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Eugene and Edward Soden; a daughter, Virginia; a grandson, Kyle Renouf and a great granddaughter Lindsay Mauser.
She is survived by a son, Joseph E. Machu and his wife, Carol, Howell Township; two granddaughters, Diane Smith and her husband Chris, and Kendra Renouf, West Long Branch; two grandsons, Joseph E. Machu, Jr. and wife Kelly, Howell Township, and Douglas Renouf, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, Howell Township; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold. A funeral service will be offered at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William L. Frederickson, Pastor Emeritus of the First Baptist Church, Freehold officiating. The interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent.
