Obituary of William D. Long
William D. Long, 81, of Colts Neck Township died Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born on September 21, 1925 in Richmond, Virginia. He was the son of the late Edgar and Irene Honeycutt Long of Buies Creek, North Carolina. Surviving are his wife, Nancy L. Long; two sons Bruce Long, Neptune and Thomas Long, Barnegat, two daughters, Linda Tarnowski, Toms River, and Carol Provow and son-in-law, David, Alpharetta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Tarnowski, Toms River and Jenna, Nicole, and Michael Provow, Georgia; a half brother, Edgar John Long, Pittston, Pennsylvania; a half sister, Betsy and brother-in-law, Guy Razzi, Falls Church, Virginia; a niece and nephew of Virginia; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war he worked for the J.J. Newberry Company and after a merger with the McCrory Corporation. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold; F. & A.M. Van Nuys Lodge No. 450, California; and the Colts Neck Senior Citizens Club. The burial will be held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. There will be no visitation and services are private. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
