Obituary of Willie Booker

Willie Booker, 91, of Freehold passed away Saturday, December 23rd, 2006 at Madison Center Health Care Facility, Old Bridge. He was the husband of the late Rachael Simmons Booker. He was born in Lenette, Alabama. The son of the late Ernest and Estelle Booker, he was a resident of Smithburg section of Freehold Township before moving to Freehold over fifty years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed by Maguire Air Force Base, Wrightstown. He was an active member in his community as a volunteer for the Smithburg fire company, a van driver for the Share Organization, and was an avid baseball player and sports enthusiast. Mr. Booker attended Friendship Baptist Church, Bayonne and Bethel A.M.E. Church, Freehold. Surviving are his son and daughter in law, Robert and Mary Funchess, Jersey City, a daughter, Jean Funchess, Trenton; a cousin, Johnny Evans, Cincinnati, Ohio, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Huntley and Val Jean Westley, Lakeland Florida, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; and host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, on Thursday, December 28, 2006 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Funeral Services will be at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. followed by interment at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
