Obituary of Charles Edward Van Hise

Charles Edward Van Hise, 94, of Millstone Township died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 30, 2006. He was born in Monroe Township on September 29, 1912 and had resided all his life in the Englishtown area. He graduated from the Millstone Public Schools, Class of 1926 and Freehold High School, Class of 1930. He married the former Estella P. Boyce on March 27, 1932. He was an avid bowler and was secretary of the Freehold Church Bowling League for over 50 years having one of his best games at 91 years of age. He was a weaver in the Englishtown Rug Mill and the A. & M. Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local No. 2250, Red Bank from 1942 until his retirement in 1974. He was a Superintendent of Construction and was responsible for the building of many schools, banks, churches, and shopping centers in New Jersey. He joined the Manalapan Presbyterian Church in 1926 which merged with the United Presbyterian Church of Millstone in 1953 where he was a Sunday School Superintendent, Elder, Deacon, and Treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Millstone Township Committee for one term, 1951 to 1954, and was president of the Manalapan Cemetery Association. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Howard R. and Margaret J. Van Hise in 1948; his beloved wife of 66 years Estella in 1998; and two daughters, Edna Jane Simacek in 1973 and Dorothy L. Paasch-Simacek in 2001. Surviving are three grandchildren, Debra D’Antonio, Murrells Inlet, S.C., Robert Paasch, Molunkus, Maine, and Kevin Simacek, Annapolis, Maryland; a son-in-law, Frank Simacek, Englishtown; three great grandsons, Lawrence Marandola, Warwick, R.I. and Samuel and Gavin Simacek, both of Annapolis, Maryland; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard R. and Ann Van Hise, Englishtown. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Gregory J. Pike officiating. The interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
