Obituary of James P. Farrell

James Patrick Farrell, 82, of Freehold Township died Monday January 22, 2007 at Applewood Health Care. Mr. Farrell was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Mr. Farrell was a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and had served in the Merchant Marine service during World War II. After his service in the Merchant Marines he was a dispatcher for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad until his retirement. He loved to cook and travel and “listen to the grass grow”. He was a member of Prince of Peace Council No. 5903, Knights of Columbus, Englishtown; Msgr. Kivelitz General Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Colombus, Freehold; and the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Old Bridge Township. He was predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Patricia Neary Farrell in 1969. Surviving are his wife, Mary Rawls Farrell; two sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Christine R. Farrell, Sea Girt and Brian Q. and Eileen M. Farrell, Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and J. Raymond Maher, Bay Head, Patricia and J. Ennis Murphy, Monmouth Beach, and Erin and Bruce F. Carstensen, Tinton Falls; a stepdaughter and her husband, Mary and John Smith, Basking Ridge and their children, Julia and Stephen; and ten grandchildren, Meaghan and Brighid Maher, Nellie and Colleen Farrell, Conor, Katherine and Bridget Murphy, Emily, Pamela, and Eric Carstensen. A private family mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 26, 2007. Memorial donations to the American Stroke Association, 2550 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902 would be appreciated.
