Obituary of Walter C. Provost

Walter C. Provost, 91, of Jackson Township died Monday, March 19, 2007 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Provost was born in East Orange and had lived in Scotch Plains from 1956 until 2006 when he moved to Jackson Township. Mr. Provost was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II serving the 19th Bomb Group. He was President of the Robert Treat Savings Bank, Newark before his retirement. Mr. Provost was Vice-Chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board from 1975 to 1976 and was a long time member of the Westfield Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Riester Provost; two sons, Walter C. Provost, Jr. Oak Ridge and Timothy J. Provost, Millstone Township; and three granddaughters, Rachel, Melissa, and Lauren. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. followed by entombment at the Good Shepherd Chapel Mausoleum at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ 07702 would be appreciated.
