Obituary of William R. Jones
William R. Jones, Jr. 78, of Southern Pines, N.C. died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at home. He was born in Freehold on June 11, 1928, son of the late William and Lillian Emmons Jones. Mr. Jones was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a land surveyor for Birdsall Engineering, Belmar. He served on the Borough of Freehold Council from 1974 to 1977 and was former member of the Borough’s Housing Authority, Shade Tree Commission, and the Planning Board. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 54, B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1454 and an exempt member of the Good Will Hook and Ladder Company of the Freehold Fire Department, all of Freehold and the Hyland Hills Country Club. His wife, Janice Elaine Howell Jones, died in 2002. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Lillian Lepley, Elsie Jones, and Loretta Cassidy. Surviving are a daughter, Lela K. Spekin and her husband, Alan of Brockton, Massachusetts; a son, William E. Jones, Southern Pines; two granddaughters, Hallie LeBlanc and Jenise Leggatt; several nieces and a nephew. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Graveside services will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
