Obituary of Robert W. Oakes

Robert W. Oakes, 80, of Freehold died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at home. He was born in Neptune Township and was a lifelong Freehold resident. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Oakes was employed at E.I. DuPont De Nemours and Company, Parlin and Freehold Raceway before his retirement. He was a former coach in the Freehold Little League, active in the Howell Lanes Bowling League, and enjoyed dancing. His wife, Jean Rue Oakes, died in 1996. He was also predeceased by a sister, Joyce Rupprecht, earlier this month. Surviving are two sons, Robert W. Oakes Jr. and wife Lori and William R. Oakes and wife Marie; a daughter, Lorrie Bolton and husband Neil; a sister, Patricia Lamb and husband Barry; and his grandchildren, Shannon, Neil III, Harold, Kristina, Michael, John, and Thomas. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held during the visiting hours at 7:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
