Obituary of Maude Buss Garrison

Maude Buss Garrison, 90, of Freehold Township died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Garrison was born in Trenton and had resided in Freehold for the past 47 years. She was a graduate of Trenton State College and received a Master of Arts Degree from Columbia University. Mrs. Garrison was a first grade teacher in the Freehold Township Schools from 1961 until her retirement in 1977. She began her teaching career in Pennington and taught in the Princeton Schools and Bradley Beach Schools before moving to Freehold. Mrs. Garrison was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Freehold, a member of the Presbyterian Women, a church Circle Leader for many years, served as ruling elder, a member of the sewing group, and was active in Church World Service. She was a member of the New Jersey Education Association, the National Education Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teaching sorority. Mrs. Garrison was a volunteer at CentraState Medical Center since the opening of the hospital, where she was honored for over 2,000 hours of volunteer service. Her husband, former Monmouth County Superintendent of Schools Earl B. Garrison, died in 1983. Surviving are a son, David E. Garrison, New York City; a daughter, Lynn G. Kough and son-in-law, Alan Kough, Chandler, Arizona; two granddaughters, Anne and Katherine Kough; two nieces, Sally Pollack, Levittown, Pennsylvania and Mary Slack, Morrisville, Pennsylvania; and two nephews, William Buss, Yardley, Pennsylvania and Ken Mitchell, Mableton, Georgia. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 A.M. followed by interment at Riverview Cemetery, Trenton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 118 W.
