Obituary of Dorothy Meyer Strauber

Dorothy Meyer Strauber, 86, of Freehold Township died Friday, May 25, 2007 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had resided in Lynbrook, N.Y. and Asheville, N.C. prior to moving to Freehold Township in 1972. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Shulman, Irving, Texas and A.J. Rowbottom, North Hollywood, California; a son, Andrew Strauber, Culver City, California; and four grandsons. She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Irving L. Strauber in 1984 and by a son, Robert Henry Strauber in 1981. She was graduated from the School of Commerce, New York University in 1942. During a long career in public relations she promoted the careers of numerous entertainment personalities such as dance icon Martha Graham, Luise Rainer, Metropolitan Opera star Marjorie Lawrence, among many others as well as images of various companies. While living in Asheville, she was Sales Director of the former Battery Park Hotel and after moving to New Jersey was Promotion Director of Freehold Raceway and Consumer Affairs Director of Foodarama Supermarkets, Inc. As an active amateur radio operator with the callsign of K2MGE she was one of the founders of the Single Sideband Amateur Radio Association and co-editor of The Sidebander as well as Sideband Editor of CQ Magazine. She was a longtime active member of the Jersey Shore Rose Society. Active in the formation of Freehold Area Hospital, she served on various committees and most recently had been a volunteer in the Short Stay Unit of CentraState Medical Center. Private cremation services are under the direction of the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.
