Obituary of Helen Serafin

Helen Serafin, 87, of South Toms River died Friday, August 3, 2007 at home. Mrs. Serafin was born in New York State and resided in Freehold for many years before moving to South Toms River two and a half years ago. Mrs. Serafin and her husband owned and operated the Collingswood Diner, Wall Township for over 25 years before retiring in 1971. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Freehold and Hope Baptist Church, Wall Township. She was the widow of Edward Serafin who died in 1989. A granddaughter, Jeanine Serafin, died in 1984. Surviving a daughter and son-in-law, Helena and Horst Szczpinski, with whom she lived; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward E., Jr., and Gail Serafin, Etters, Pennsylvania; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Joann Boyko, Clifton; a sister, Vera Peterson, Westtown, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with her nephew, Rev. David Peterson, officiating. The interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
