Obituary of Dorothy Ann Kaplan
Dorothy Ann Kaplan, 89, of Freehold Township, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Iowa City, Iowa, she lived in Marengo, Iowa prior to moving to the Freehold area in 1944.
Mrs. Kaplan was a self-employed teacher and writer. Wherever she went, Dottie made friends of all ages, shapes and sizes through origami. She taught thousands the joy of paperfolding through her Paperfolding Plus television shows on Monmouth Cablevision and by founding the Jersey Central Origami Group at the Monmouth County Library. The people she met there were not just acquaintances-she touched their hearts, minds and spirits and they became close friends through paperfolding.
She was a member of the Origami Society of America, and a member of the Chevra Kadisha at the Freehold Jewish Center.
She was predeceased by her brother, David Danovitz.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Murray and Ellen Kaplan, Manalapan Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Francine Kaplan and her husband, Mark Diamond, Atlanta, Georgia, and Sandra and Jeff Satten, Howell Township; five grandchildren, Lissa Kaplan, Brian Kaplan, Jamie Diamond, Isaac Satten and his wife Jenn, and Shayn Satten; and a great granddaughter Isabella Satten.
