Obituary of Anthony Luongo
Anthony Luongo, 82, of Freehold Township died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at home. He was born in Orange and had resided in Freehold Township for the past 37 years. Mr. Luongo received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers College, Rutgers University and his law degree from Harvard Law School. He was a trial lawyer for 40 years, initially in private practice in Elizabeth. He served as an assistant prosecutor in charge of Grand Jury in Union County. For many years, he served as a senior lawyer in New Jersey for the St. Paul Insurance Company. In private practice, he also was associated with the late Arthur Sills, former New Jersey Attorney General, and in partnership with the late Alan Karcher, former leader of the New Jersey Assembly. Mr. Luongo served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He founded a Chapter of the Lions Club in Elizabeth. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Marlene Luongo; two sons, David Luongo, Freehold and Michael Luongo, Manhattan, N.Y.; three daughters, Esther Luongo Psarakis and her husband Takis, Bridgewater, Claudia Luongo, Roosevelt, and Julia Luongo McArdle and her husband, James McArdle, Roosevelt; a brother, Michael Luongo, Riverside, California; a sister, Johanna LaVia,Canton, Conn.; two grandchildren, Antonios and Evangelia Psarakis; a niece, and two nephews. Memorial services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday. October 3, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
