Obituary of Mary K. Valenta

Mary K. Valenta, 89, of the Villages, Howell Township died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at The Manor, Freehold Township. Mrs. Valenta was born in New York City and had resided there before moving to the Freehold area in 1977. She was a bookkeeper for the Downtown Association in the City of New York, New York City for 14 years before her retirement in 1984. Mrs. Valenta was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Freehold where she served as an elder, memorial and special gifts treasurer, financial secretary, moderator of Church World Service, and a member of Presbyterian Women and the church choir. Prior to moving to Freehold Mrs. Valenta was a member of the Jan Hus Presbyterian Church, New York City and the Astoria Presbyterian Church, Astoria, N.Y. where she was an elder and church choir member. She was active in several Czechoslovakian societies in New York City including the Zaboj Society, a theatrical club. Her husband, Charles E. Valenta, died in 1969. Surviving are three daughters, Diane Cerny, Dumont, Marie Chvatal, College Park, Maryland, and Cheryl Quandt, Howell Township; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Freehold on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Cindy Bowman officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church Building Preservation Fund, 118 West Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated.
