Obituary of John A. Dugan

John (Jack) A. Dugan, 83, of Freehold Township died Friday, February 15, 2008 at home. He was born in the "Big Woods" section of Marlboro Township and lived in Colts Neck 45 years before moving to Freehold Township. He was the Secretary/Business Administrator for the Marlboro Township Board of Education for 27 1/2 years retiring in 1988. Prior to that he was a partner in the firm of F.J. Dugan & Sons with his father and twin brother, Jim, for twenty years serving local farmers and dairymen with feed and farm supplies. He was an administrator during the construction of many school buildings and additions in Marlboro and was proud of the fact that the Board of Education named the last building completed prior to his retirement the "Frank J. Dugan Elementary School" in honor of his long service to the community and school district. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church and a member of Father McGiveny Council No. 6392, Knights of Columbus, Marlboro Township, the Monmouth County School Business Administrators, N.J. Association of School Business Administrators and the Association of School Business Officials International. Our “Wild Colonial Boy” will be remembered for his abounding love of his beloved family, his Irish heritage, and his Catholic faith. He will be deeply missed by his adoring wife of 56 years, family and friends. His warmth, congeniality, and gregarious nature encompassed all. His love of life and sense of humor made him a joy to be around. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; a sister, Sara Reddy and her husband Jack, Freehold; a brother, Frank Jr. and his wife Millie, Aberdeen; six daughters and son-in-laws, Kathleen and Frank Ziller, Millville, Margaret and Roger Taylor, Manasquan, Karen Buckley-VanCuren and Bryan VanCuren, Marlboro, Jayne and Harry Gelder, South Amboy, Lisa and Tom Muir, Manasquan, Maureen and Tim MacCutcheon, Freehold; a son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Jeannie, Little Silver; and 23 grandchildren, a granddaughter-in-law, and a grandson-in-law. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Frank J. and Regina Creevy Dugan, his twin brother Jim, Freehold, and his son-in-law, Thomas Buckley, Marlboro. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Gabriel’s R.C. Church, Marlboro on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery.
